Dennis Bland Honored at Champions of Diversity Ceremony
During last month’s Champions of Diversity award ceremony, Dennis Bland received the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Award for his tireless efforts to mentor youth in central Indiana.
Bland, President at the Center for Leadership Development, said of being included in the ceremony, “I’m honored to be among such an esteemed group.” He noted his mother, who died of cancer when he was only five years old, would be very proud of him.
Bland said he always knew he wanted to spend his life in service to others. He says he learned the value of public service from his community and church. “Life is most fulfilling when you begin to look out for those who are most vulnerable.”
He went on to call Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr., “One of the most distinguished individuals of the human family.”
