IU Indianapolis Chancellor Dr. Latha Ramchand recently spoke to the Asian American Alliance about her journey from working in finance to leading one of the largest schools in Indiana.

During their recent Seat at the Table event, Dr. Ramchand shared stories about her background, and how she works to connect with the more than 5,000 international students who study in the Indiana University system.

Despite continued hard work and determination, Dr. Ramchand says, “As leaders, we can not do everything.” She instead wants to move some of the focus onto younger generations and prepare them for a life of academic success.

As an immigrant, and first-generation college student Dr. Ramchand spoke to the group about her journey and how she’s now focused on empowering others.  She says she owes much of her success to the great mentors in her life. “Education truly opens doors for you.”

Looking forward, Dr. Ramchand says she wants to see IU Indianapolis grow its opportunities to partner with students in emerging markets. She says students around the world want to study in America, and she’s focused on making that a reality.
