Indiana Farm Bureau Partnering with FBI for Farmer Safety Conference
The Indiana Farm Bureau and the FBI want to address important technology and food safety risks that could threaten Indiana’s agriculture industry.
Megan Ritter, the Indiana Farm Bureau Senior Executive Director of Administration, says the upcoming conference is designed as a day-long summit with the FBI and other partners to help farmers adopt new technologies and techniques to keep their businesses more secure.
Ritter says, “Agriculture is everywhere,” and the Indiana Farm Bureau represents more than 60,000 farmers across the state. She says agriculture in Indiana is as big as the auto and construction industries.
As farming continues to grow, Ritter says technology in agriculture is also growing, but that also opens farmers up to threats. And those threats can turn into serious food security risks that could impact consumers. She says the upcoming summit will elevate the conversation around threats on Indiana farms. “Food security is national security.”
Along with speakers and panels, issues like physical security and cyber security will be addressed during the event, as well as biosecurity needs that can help protect Indiana livestock. Ritter says maintaining relationships with law enforcement and local leaders helps ensure a safe food supply.
The Indiana Ag Threats and Security Summit will be held on March 25th at the Tallison Hotel in Carmel. To learn more, visit www.infarmbureau.org/events/details/2025/03/25/infb/indiana-ag-threats-security-summit.
