Sunny St. Patrick’s Day, windy & warmer conditions mid-week | Mar. 17, 2025

Marcus’ 4 a.m. Monday forecast

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The upcoming week should be a little quieter than the active week we had last week.

Monday:

High pressure settles in throughout the day today. This should bring plenty of sunshine for your St. Patrick’s Day. As the high moves to the east, we should get more of a southerly flow and slightly warmer temperatures, or at least closer to average for this time of year. We will top out in the low to mid-50s across much of central Indiana this afternoon.

Monday night:

A few clouds will roll in as we go through the evening and overnight hours. I also expect some winds to pick up ahead of the next midweek system moving through. Overnight lows will fall to the upper 30s and lower 40s.

Tuesday:

An upper-level system will start working through the central parts of the country on Tuesday. We will remain dry during the day; however, with this system to our west starting to gain strength, we will likely see the winds pick up a bit as we head through our Tuesday afternoon. Wind gusts could exceed 30 mph at times throughout our Tuesday.

Otherwise, it will be a very mild afternoon with high temperatures topping out in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Wednesday:

An area of low pressure will continue to intensify to our west and move closer to the state. This will really ramp up our gradient winds with gusts potentially peaking over 40 mph at times through the day. This would put us at borderline wind advisory criteria.

Meanwhile, scattered showers and even a rumble of thunder could be possible as we go through the day. The threat for severe weather is pretty low, but with the higher wind gusts, you can’t rule out potentially a severe storm that could produce some pretty nasty winds for the afternoon and evening hours.

High temperatures will top out in the mid and upper 60s.

Thursday:

The midweek storm system will move over the state and move to the east throughout the day on Thursday. This will allow for blustery winds with gusts exceeding 30 mph at times. Most importantly, it will bring a rush of very chilly air. We will likely see scattered rain chances in the pre-daybreak hours, but it will turn cold enough that we may flip the switch to some snow showers through the morning drive and up to lunchtime on Thursday.

High temperatures will only hit the mid-40s.

7 day forecast:

Thankfully, the shot of cold air will be relatively brief in this forecast. We should bounce back to the mid to upper 50s for highs with a quiet day on Friday. A very weak upper-level wave will move in on Saturday, sparking some scattered light showers for the afternoon and evening hours as highs hold in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Sunday does look to be dry with highs in the low to mid-60s.

The long-range pattern does put temperatures right at or slightly above average over the next 8 to 14 days. The average high for the end of March is typically in the mid-50s.
