Good Thyme Farm in Fortville showcases regenerative farming techniques
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Good Thyme Farm in Fortville invites the public to learn about livestock and agriculture through their small-scale farming practices.
Megan Babuska and her husband run the farm, focusing on educating visitors about their approach to farming, which emphasizes regenerative practices, organic techniques, and heritage breeds.
“What we do here is focus on the land and the soil,” Babuska said. “Then we also focus on how we can use the animals to benefit the growth of the plants and the vegetables that are growing.”
At The Good Thyme Farm, pigs play a crucial role by tearing up the dirt, which prepares the land for planting. “For our benefit they’re tearing up the garden to get it ready for this year’s planting,” Babuska explained. “They’re clearing the land and they really do a lot of work for us.”
The farm is home to a variety of animals, including chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, pigs, and a cow. Babuska highlights the importance of having a natural ecosystem, similar to what one might observe in the wild, where each animal serves a specific purpose.
“We focus on education,” Babuska said. “We love having families out so they can have an adventurous day learning about food, farming, and animals.”
The Good Thyme Farm continues to offer educational experiences that connect families with the natural processes of farming, emphasizing sustainable and organic practices.
