Faces of Lupus organization founded to support those affected by the disease
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH)- Carla Day was diagnosed with lupus in January 1988.
After struggling and persevering with the disease for over 30 years, she has dedicated her mission to helping others affected.
Recognizing a need for more support services in Indiana, Carla started the Faces of Lupus Organization in 2024.
According to the Mayo Clinic, lupus is a disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs (autoimmune disease).
Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems including your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.
Lupus can be difficult to diagnose because its signs and symptoms often mimic those of other ailments.
The most distinctive sign of lupus a facial rash that resembles the wings of a butterfly unfolding across both cheeks occurs in many but not all cases of lupus.
Some people are born with a tendency toward developing lupus, which may be triggered by infections, certain drugs or even sunlight.
While there’s no cure for lupus, treatments can help control symptoms.
Carl and Faces of Lupus Support Group Facilitator, Frances Pierce joined the Life.Style.Live! crew to discuss the organization as well as lupus as a disease.
They are also hosting a meet and greet on March 22 from 2-5 at the PharmFree Life.
That’s located at 5361 E 82nd St, Indianapolis, IN.
