INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An evening with Academy Award-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter will celebrate the Children’s Museum exhibit of the work of the renowned costume designer on Saturday, March 22, at the Madam Walker Legacy Center.

The event will feature a presentation of Afrofuturism, showcasing the talents of local artists and designers, including stylist Terry Baptiste and couture designer Nikki Blaine.

“We are collectively doing our presentation as a part of the celebration for Ruth E. Carter,” said Nikki Blaine of Nikki Blaine Couture.

Ruth E. Carter is renowned for her work on films such as ‘Black Panther,’ ‘Malcolm X,’ and ‘Selma,’ making her a trailblazer in the costume design industry.

The event aims to highlight local talent as well, often overshadowed by Indianapolis’s reputation for the Indy 500 and agriculture.

“We have a lot of great local talent here that we don’t get the acknowledgment around the world,” Stylist, Thierry Baptiste noted.

The celebration of Ruth E. Carter‘s work not only honors her contributions to film but also shines a spotlight on the vibrant artistic community in Indianapolis.
