INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Mya Smith-Edmonds, a second-generation McDonald’s franchise owner, continues to inspire young women during Women’s History Month.
Smith-Edmonds, who operates several McDonald’s franchises, follows in the footsteps of her father, Harry Smith, who was also an owner-operator. Her journey from growing up in the business to becoming a successful franchise owner highlights the importance of education and mentorship.
“I absolutely love being in this position,” Smith-Edmonds said, “I love it because, to your point, I’m able to be an inspiration to the children that I hire, that I can train, that I can mentor, provide educational opportunities for them.”
After pursuing higher education and gaining experience as a CPA and a program director in radio, Smith-Edmonds returned to the family business, bringing a diverse set of skills to her role as a McDonald’s owner-operator.
Smith-Edmonds also highlighted the success of Melaya Hughes, a young scholar won the McDonald’s Black History Makers award.
McDonald’s also provides educational opportunities to its employees through the Archways program.
