Women’s History Month: Spotlighting Bargersville Farmer, Emily Stewart
BARGERSVILLE, (WISH)- As part of Women’s History Month, we’re spotlighting local women involved in the agriculture industry.
Today we’re spotlighting Emily Stewart, who’s a fifth-generation farmers in Bargersville.
“I grew up on a dairy farm when I was younger and then we turned into basically beef and grain,” Stewart said. “We also have a show hog operation that my cousin operates with my uncle.”
Emily says she does a lot of different things in order to help operate their family farm.
“I do a lot of semi driving, a lot of ground working in the spring and I love standing beside my dad in the spring learning all that I can,” Stewart said. “Every year I kind of transition into a next step role.”
Stewart says raising the next generation on the family farm is something very important to her.
“I grew up about half a mile away,” Stewart said. “So I spent a lot of time here with my grandparents and with my dad growing up. So to be able to survive in the world we live in with a family farm and be able to raise the next generation here is very near and dear to my heart.”
Stewart also runs another business on the side called Dirt Darling.
“I’m a photographer and it’s all self-taught,” Stewart said. “Also Dirt Darling has a second division and it’s a cleaning business.”
Stewart says she cleaned all through college and from there her business took off.
“We do apartment complexes, residential cleaning and commercial cleaning,” Stewart said.
As far as her photography business, Stewart says she enjoys staying busy with photoshoots.
“My niche in photography is bringing people here to experience the family farm,” Stewart said. “I really love doing that.”
