Indianapolis Motor Speedway museum set to reopen with immersive new experience
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — One of central Indiana’s most iconic attractions is gearing up for a highly anticipated reopening. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, closed for renovations for the past 16 months, will officially reopen April 2.
Joe Hale, president of the IMS Museum, shared details on the $89 million transformation during an interview on Daybreak.
“We’re on schedule, we’re under budget, and we’re 28 days away from opening,” Hale said.
Tickets for the revamped museum are already on sale. A timed ticketing system is in place to manage crowds during the initial reopening period. Adult admission is $25, while children’s tickets are $18. Seniors receive a discount and children under five get in free. Museum memberships are also available, offering priority entry and additional perks.
A completely redesigned experience awaits visitors inside. Hale emphasized that nothing from the previous museum remains.
One highlight is the new “Starting Line Experience,” which immerses guests in the sights and sounds of race day from dawn until the famous call to start engines.
“It’s in front of you, it’s above you, it’s all around you. It’s incredible, just incredible,” Hale said.
The museum now features 14 distinct galleries, rotating exhibitions every few months, and interactive displays. A major focus is on education, with exhibits highlighting career opportunities in motorsports for young visitors.
“If the person isn’t a car person when they walk in, they will still enjoy it because it’s interactive, participatory, immersive, and entertaining, especially for kids,” Hale said.
As the renovations see the checkered flag right around the corner, race fans and history buffs alike can look forward to an all-new way to experience the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum.
