Caitlin Clark fuels demand for Fever games, leading to venue change in DC
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A pair of Indiana Fever road games against the Washington Mystics have been moved to a larger venue due to high ticket demand driven by star player Caitlin Clark.
Originally scheduled to be held at the CareFirst Arena in Washington, D.C., which seats approximately 4,200 people, the games on May 28 and Sept. 7 will now take place at the CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, accommodating up to 14,000 fans.
The decision to relocate the games shows just how big an impact Clark is having on women’s basketball and the WNBA. During the 2024 season — Clark’s first in the league — she helped drive up ticket sales at home and on the road.
A June report by sportcasting.com showed that WNBA attendance went up by 105% when Clark was an action, while the Fever averaged 36% more fans on the road (15,142) than any other WNBA team. In September, a game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse between the Fever and Mystics set a league attendance record of 20,711.
In addition to the venue change for the regular season games, the University of Iowa, Clark’s alma mater, has announced that the Fever’s exhibition game against Brazil’s national team on May 4 at Carver Hawkeye Arena is sold out.
The Indiana Fever will officially tip off the 2025 season at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on May 17 against the Chicago Sky.
