Athlete of the week: Whiteland’s Ethan Edwards
INDIANPOLIS (WISH) — Whiteland boys basketball won their first sectional championship since 2002.
A key reason for that is senior guard Ethan Edwards. He leads the team with almost 22 points per game. He also leads the team in steals and is second in rebounds.
Now, the Warriors will match up against Terre Haute North in the regional on Saturday.
“We haven’t won a regional since World War II,” Edwards said. “So just to even think of that is insane. We get to play in front of a great crowd, play in a great gym, a lot of history there. So I mean, it’s really special to us.”
Whiteland has not won a regional championship since 1944.
I’ve thought of it ever since growing up. You’re a little kid. My dad used to coach here. I watched the kids growing up. And I mean, it’s really special to see this. We’ve had a lot of talented teams at Weiland, and for us to be the one to pull it through, it really means a lot.
