Hoosiers begin cleanup after storms march across Indiana
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Severe weather rolled across Indiana Wednesday night, leaving significant damage in parts of northern and central Indiana.
Storm Surveys
The National Weather Service says survey teams will be out across the state to determine if the damage was caused by storms, tornadoes, or other strong winds.
At least one Indiana tornado has been confirmed by survey teams. The National Weather Service in Chicago says preliminary information indicates an EF-1 tornado “impacted parts of Gary” on Thursday. An EF1 tornado has sustained winds of 86 – 110 mph.
NWS Indianapolis will have a crew in Bartholomew County on Thursday. They will also have a few people heading to Hendricks County but said they don’t anticipate finding tornado damage.
NWS Northern Indiana says a team will look at storm damage at the Logansport/Cass County Airport and in an area south of U.S. 35.
The storms also caused power outages throughout the state. Most of the outages were concentrated in Bartholomew, Carroll, Lake, Putnam, and Switzerland counties.
Cleanup efforts are underway in much of the state.
