Fishers Event Center built as sensory-inclusive venue, prioritizing accessibility

Fishers Event Center expands inclusivity

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) — The Fishers Event Center may be a few months old, but it’s already setting a high standard not just for entertainment but also accessibility and inclusivity.

The venue prides itself in making sure that guests can enjoy their experiences comfortably. It’s officially a certified sensory-inclusive venue, which aligns with the center’s goal of proving that entertainment should be accessible to anyone.

Anne Clendenin, director of marketing at the center, said Wednesday, “We are a KultureCity building, which means our staff has gone through special training to help identify and support individuals with hidden disabilities.”

For people who need extra support, sensory kits are available at guest services, with noise-cancelling headphones, fidget tools, and other objects to keep people calm. “There’s sunglasses, visual cue cards, special lanyards. We’ve got an important lap pad here that helps guests feel the weighted comfort and comfort of a weighted lap pad,” Clendenin said.

There’s also a universal changing table on the second floor, for all ages and mobility levels, as well as a sensory room, designed to offer a quiet environment for people who have sensory overload. “It’s quiet, it’s calming, it’s soothing in there, There are multiple sensory activations in the room that help with taking a minute and calming down.”

The creators of the Fishers Events Center also wanted to be sure a designated room was available for mothers and their families to nurse, change diapers, or take a few moments away from the activities. “Both spaces are available at the front of the building, right by the main entrance. You walk up to guest services, and one of our friendly team members will help get you inside.”

People can access the sensory rooms during the center’s events.
