Dr. Henderson: Battling seasonal depression

Noble Seasonal Depression

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — After months of glum weather, you may feel the weight of seasonal depression. Dr. Henderson, a clinical psychologist from Indiana University, brought some tips to your Daybreak to help you embrace winter.

Even if your symptoms don’t meet the definition of depression, adjusting to winter – and realizing it’s still ongoing – can be hard for anyone.

Dr. Henderson recommends putting time in your schedule dedicated to doing nothing. That way, when you get overwhelmed, you’ll always have that time to yourself where you can watch a movie or take a yoga class.

Make a bucket list for all the activities you want to do over the winter. Whether that’s sledding down a hill, going to an event, or picking up a new hobby, give yourself goals helps to unclog seasonal depression.

Next, Dr. Henderson recommends putting some flare into your surroundings. Bring plants inside your home or light a candle for sensory stimulation.
