LaMar Holliday makes history as first Black man to lead Hoosier public relations society

Holliday makes history with Public Relations Society of America

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A local Hoosier has made history as the first African-American man to lead the Public Relations Society of America Hoosier Chapter.

Indy native LaMar Holliday’s leadership comes at a crucial time as the industry pushes for more diversity and inclusion.

Holliday’s journey to public relations started after a six-year career as a television journalist. He joined the PRSA Hoosier Chapter, which he says has been crucial in teaching him everything he knows about public relations.

“I needed some resources and to really connect with the organization to teach me what PR was, so the PRSA did that for me. It is a complete honor to be in this role and to pour into this organization that has poured into me,” Holliday said.

The president-elect says he wants to take on his new role by continuing diversity, equity, and inclusion within Indiana’s PR industry by creating more opportunities for diverse talent. Holliday has the support of the national chapter.

“The fact that we have that from our national chapter, saying with DEI we represent a lot of people and we’re going to continue to do that, we’re not going to back down from that. That is the same mantra that I’m going to take into our chapter here in the Hoosier state,” he said.

One of the biggest challenges Holliday sees in the public relations industry is the lack of Black men. He is hoping his leadership can set the precedent for a more inclusive industry.

“I would encourage them to take a look at it, research it. If you’re into connecting people, if you’re into communications, design, graphics and content, there’s a place for you here in PR,” he said.

Holliday founded his business, The Holliday Collaborative Agency in 2021.

“We find those stories, we tell those stories. We link people at organizations to help further their causes, and that’s what wakes me up every morning. The joy to do this is absolutely amazing,” he said.

Holliday’s term as president of the organization starts in 2026. Until then, he plans to talk with each member of the organization throughout the year to find out what their needs and goals are.

“When it comes to 2026 – when its my turn to lead – I’ll take that into consideration for my next administration, if you will,” Holliday said.
