‘Timmy’s stuck in the well!’: Dog rescued after found trapped in well underneath Texas home
LONGVIEW, Texas (CNN) — A man’s good hearing led to a rescue mission after a dog was discovered in a 12-foot-deep well under his Texas rental home in late February.
The man told authorities he’d heard faint barking for several days before realizing its source before realizing it was coming from the well – a well he didn’t even know was there.
Animal control officials arrived at the scene on Feb. 25 and found the dog, a Basset Hound mix, stuck in the well’s walls.
The rescue operation took around three hours before first responders and the dog exited a crawl space under the home, victorious. Officials believe the dog had been trapped for at least several days.
After the rescue, the dog was taken to a local veterinarian and was found to be largely unharmed, suffering only from an inflamed ear and some cuts.
The rescue team named the dog Timmy, after the boy from the classic TV show “Lassie.” While “Timmy falling down a well” is a popular trope inspired by the show, Timmy never actually fell down a well.
But Timmy did get into all sorts of messes, including getting trapped in a mine field and getting hit by a truck.
The four-legged Timmy was taken to Longview Animal Care and Adoption Center following his rescue, and was later adopted by one of his rescuers.
