Family of Delphi Murders victim responds to Richard Allen’s appeal
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Days after Richard Allen’s attorneys filed an appeal against his sentence, the family of Libby German has responded.
Allen, at age 52, was found guilty in November of two counts of murder and two counts for felony murder for the deaths of 13-year-old Abigail “Abby” Williams and 14-year-old Liberty “Libby” German. The girls’ bodies were found near the bridge near Delphi on Feb. 14, 2017, a day after they went missing.
He was sentenced to 130 years in prison in December.
Allen’s attorneys filed an appeal with the Indiana Court of Appeals on Tuesday, and the appeal was posted online Wednesday.
In a statement provided to News 8’s Kyla Russell, Libby German’s grandfather Mike Patty says though they recognize the appeal as part of Allen’s rights, they wish he would not pursue the action.
While we realize that filing an appeal is a part of his judicial rights, we wish he would not pursue this course of action and own up to his numerous confessions and accept the conviction he received after a trial of his peers. His actions continue hurting my family with the continued filings along with leaks of evidence and information. We have faith in the Lord and our justice system that our girls will finally get to rest in peace. The girls deserve better than these recent actions that have been done.

Allen’s attorneys say they are awaiting a notice of completion from the Carroll County Clerk’s Office, and the trial court retains jurisdiction until that time. The notice of completion should be filed within the next 30 days.
The appeal was followed by the release of the 43-second-long “Bridge Guy” video, captured by Libby at 2:13 p.m. Feb. 13, 2017 while she and Abby walked on a former railroad bridge in Carroll County.
The video was played during Allen’s weekslong trial in October and November before a jury of Allen County residents, but the recording had not previously been released for wider view beyond the courtroom.
