Dairy to sell Indianapolis 500-branded milk containers
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Motor Speedway, American Dairy Association Indiana, and Prairie Farms Dairy have teamed up to release special Indianapolis 500-branded milk pints and cartons to fans across the Midwest.
The commemorative milk pints, available at over 13,000 retailers in eight states, feature past Indy 500 winners such as Josef Newgarden, Takuma Sato, Will Power, Helio Castroneves, and Marcus Ericsson. They will be sold for six weeks starting this week.
In addition to the collectible pint bottles, approximately 80 million half-pint cartons decorated with a graphic celebrating “Winners Drink Milk” will be distributed to schools throughout the Midwest.
A news release issued Wednesday from Indianapolis Motor Speedway noted the tradition of drinking milk after winning the Indianapolis 500 began in 1936 when Louis Meyer requested a bottle of buttermilk after his victory. This iconic celebration has continued ever since, with winners now choosing between whole milk, 2% reduced-fat milk, or skim milk.
The 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 will be May 25.
